This relates to several existing requests, and is sort of an overview of several of them. (See non-mass downloading, Mass-uploading, email posting to forums.)
"CVS" here is a stand in for "some CVS-like version management system". The idea would be to make it so that PM could more easily be used by people working on math or code projects – mmj2 is an example of an existing project that has is now hosted by PlanetMath, but doing this required administrator intervention. It would be swell if more of this process could be automated.
This even relates to the User pages for PM request; everyone could have a file area as part of their user page, for example. See also PlanetMath engine interbred with wikibooks idea.
This feature would be very useful for people writing papers together. The usual way, I suppose, is to bounce revisions over email. Maybe we could charge a nominal fee? Or at least, we could encourage people to pay something if "find it useful".
There are some similar projects on the web, but nothing for mathematicians or scientists (as I could find): http://www.writeboard.com/, http://www.andamooka.org/ (only for free content). --matte
CVS would of course be useful to have for administrative documents as well as for math content.
