This is an idea that I brought up a while ago, but I'm not sure if it made it onto the wiki yet.
The idea is to make forums and so on into mailing lists.
As described on this discussion page, I think it would be great to have all the features of the collaborative system available through an email or other very "lite" interface. But starting with the forums for PM would be a good beginning!
I think that an email interface would massively increase the amount of participation that we'd see in the forums from people who would rather do their math discussions in a "mailing list" than on an online bulletin board. (They wouldn't have to think about the fact that the two things are the same… because they would be being bidirectionally updated with each other - hey, a very simple case for bidi systems.) --jcorneli Fri Mar 25 04:54:17 2005 UTC
Aaron has written some code for automatic-email-creation of corrections. Presumably it could be modified to form the basis for this email/forum system. --jcorneli
